Can we blame our ancestors for our own shortcomings?
by undercover inin a recent thread about an nfl player being allowed to return to play after being convicted and serving time for a felony, it was suggested that maybe his ancestory played a part in his attitudes and actions.. those of you were playing along at home know the deal.... is it fair to lay blame on one's ancestors in how one acts in today's society?.
i think not.... my ancestor's came here from scotland, when their lands were taken from them back home.
they came here with nothing and had to start over in a land with next to nothing, eeking out an existance in the mountains of tn and nc, always struggling.

Is the WTS preparing for a MASS EXODUS?
by passwordprotected inhobo ken and i were chatting about this yesterday.. the wts has past experience of losing vast numbers of members very quickly.
from their post-25 and post-75 experiences they will know how best to prepare their organisational structure to remain afloat when they experience another exodus.. we're only 5 years from the 100 year anniversary of ct russell walking into the dining room and announcing the gentile times had ended.
since then, millions of people have molded and adjusted their lives and personal expectations based on the date 1914. the wts must know that 2015 is going to bring with it one or two upset jws.... so, is the wts preparing for a mass exodus right now?.

Before the establishment of the GB Helpers almost everything was dictated by the GB. Even the most loyal members of the Bethel family had to admit that a few of the GB weren’t that bright. Their decision making process consisted of “Do we have the money?” if yes then “Let’s do it!”
If any corporation management suggested building or expanding a factory in one of the most expensive cities in the world they would lose their jobs. With the Helpers taking over more and more responsibility the GB are being pushed back into a more strictly religious role. With more decisions being made using logic vs. enthusiasm you’ll see less boned headed moves like purchasing the “Sliver” building.
Even when I was a true believer it was obvious that there were liberal and conservative camps in management. One example would be Patterson. Some pictured a gleaming, shining city on a hill. Where spiritual truths would pour out from heaven and Gilead students would go out in mighty droves. Others pictured it as waste of money and Gilead students as long term responsibilities that had a high cost to benefit ratio. Eventually they ended up with a hybrid Education Center slash moving some production out of Brooklyn Center.
Viewing things from a corporate standpoint here is what I see:Sell all of the property in Brooklyn. Buying random buildings was stupid back then. Its stupid to keep them now.
DUMBO project – One facility that will house the corporate offices. No production, no expansion ever.
Rampo project – This will be the old folk’s home. Most of the assisted living care will be there. It will also be a good way to separate the old guard from the daily decision making process. I suspect some think even Rampo is to close.
Production – Anywhere that is cheap. Does it really matter where the stuff is printed. They would probably sell Wallkill and Patterson if they could. -

Another Question for JW Apologists...
by Jack Burton ini've been following the thread on staying off of apostate sites, and somehow the subject of reinstatement came up.. i started thinking about this, and i thought about how "easy" it would be for someone like me to get reinstated.
just for the record, i have no desire to ever go back to "the truth".
but, after being raised as a witness, serving in various different positions, i understand how to play the game.

Surprised you guys haven’t mentioned the “The Spirit has been grieved!”
Hidden transgression or a secretly apostate Elder would grieve the Holy Spirit. The result would be fewer bible studies, fewer pioneers and a drop in donations. The result is the CO showing up and announcing “The Spirit has been grieved!” Then some horrible wrong doing would be made known that night.
At Bethel there are the “The Spirit is leaving Bethel” stories. One Bethel legend is that during morning worship Sydlik showed up on the monitors and didn’t say a word for a couple of minutes. Then he said “The Spirit has been grieved. It is leaving Bethel because of hidden sin in the family” Immediately a married sister fainted and fell out of her chair. It turned out she and her husband were wife swapping with another couple at Bethel. The Holy Spirit doesn't point out wrongdoing, it just leaves the house.

I thought the Egyptian Pyramid Texts are the oldest known religious texts in the world. If the Bible is the Word of God, what was the hold up? Was God still busy doing a rough draft? Or did he forget to send it to the printers?

Leolaia, slimboyfat et al. - how difficult?
by TheOldHippie ini read your posts, and the posts of others, and posts at other sites - posts that are full of research material of the sort you will have to spend the whole night going thru and trying to remotely get a grip of.. so i wonder - just how difficult do you - or others - feel that christianity, christian faith, "salvation" is meant to be?
if you consider a namib desert pygme, a bhutan sherpa, a yunnan farmer, an andes mine worker, an amazonian jungle dweller, an indian without caste, a big city sidewalk dweller - just how hard can it be meant for him / her to grasp the gospel and gain hope of salvation?
what is demanded by the salt of the earth people?

CALLING ALL EX BETHELITES &GILIAD MEMBERS :what REALLY goes on
by freedomisntfree inive been stewing on the idea for a few years that these places who are supposedly so holy must have a dark underbelly.what kind of scandolous things if any did any of you witness or hear about.e.g: amatuer porn in the residences, grow ops in the gardens cross dressing gb members etc.im going to be really disapointed if none of this ever happened.

As said above Bethelites are in a high control environment. I saw allot of people get kicked out only after a few days or weeks. The weeding process continues during your first year and never really ends. Unknown to some they “observe” your personal belongings, phone calls, non-theocratic outings, etc. There is an ingrained culture of self regulation.
They also have an internal security group. And that group has daily contact with the housekeepers. And those housekeepers are in your room every day. If any book, DVD, CD or magazine is a cause for concern more than one person will know about it. If you miss a meeting, Family Study, dish duty somebody will know about it. If you say something that sounds “off” somebody will hear about it. They are one big happy Family, and families don’t have secrets.
On top of that most people there are really serious about “Keeping God’s House Clean” -
